N. Pat Miller chronicles his journey from an idealistic life in the suburbs, to the impact of the Vietnam War on his psyche, and the ultimate choice of a career in law enforcement, in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. His prayers and Christian faith, make him realize that his survival and success are interrelated with God’s helping hand and pathways. While not incurring obvious physical injuries along the way, he has overcome the mental anguish and disabilities of PTSD and Meniere’s disease. Though not obvious to most, a visit to the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, DC, demonstrated a collective unspoken comradery with other vets visiting the memorial. As a police officer, his unit’s unparalleled success forged the way for a permanent investigative, tactical, surveillance unit.
