The Book

Kay was smiling, appreciating her cousin’s compliment. Stew had always been there for her, even when they were younger. Today, she played a bigger part of Kay’s life by moving into the house with her and helping out with the bills. Hard times fell hard on Kay all at once; the police had killed her daughter’s father Jason/Jay, and her mother suddenly died from cancer. At the tender age of twenty, Kay definitely had her hands full. The rest of her family was not as supportive as Stew. In fact, they had distanced themselves to the point of literally becoming strangers. The one thing that they managed to do was consistently harass Kay, trying to get her to rent the house out and use the money to secure a living somewhere cheaper. The idea was not a bad one, but Kay knew that they would knock on her door every month borrowing, begging, and asking for money that they had no intentions on paying back. Furthermore, the house meant too much to her. All of her fonder memories were in the house, and she only had another year to pay-off the mortgage. She did not want to risk letting someone else stay there and depend on their income to secure the mortgage payments.
