On this day, she was effortlessly scouring the seabed for food and pearls with her lifelong companion, Carlota. A beautiful mermaid.
Meanwhile, on the vastly populated lands of Planet Earth, we were about to play the endgame of life.
Andrei Usinov was the leader of the great eastern superpower Malikai. He sat alone at the long table in the Great Hall of the Zesny Palace in the capital city of Ravnigrad. A bid for world domination started on its south-western border in Livkraine in February 2022. There were tit-for-tat gains and losses in territories between the superpowers. Then there was mutually assured destruction as nuclear weapons entered the conflict.
President Usinov mulled over the last two and a half years as he drained an expensive bottle of vodka. His cancer-ridden body has reduced him to a skeletal figure. His shaky right hand hovered over the red button that would set off the last range of intergalactic missiles.
After a swift drink from the glass, he screamed and hollered while banging his right hand on the red button.
Meanwhile, in the depths of the tropical sea, Ruby Mer and her sidekick, Carlota, swam close to the seabed. They heard and felt the muffled sounds of explosions.
The duo realised the day had come for them to make their transition from sea to land creatures.
