The Author

In the late 1980s, while heading the Interior Architectural Program at the California State University at Long Beach, practicing architecture and directing several other businesses, Professor Joy Bob Singhal pursued research on the left and right brain to enhance the Design Practice and Education course at the university.

He found that in order to make the design process creative and intuitive, the right brain comes into play and for the right brain to be actively and optimally engaged, we need to be happy and joyful. This led him to explore, learn, and teach the techniques for happiness. The more he knew, the more he realized that the state of mind of happiness is a universal need for our well-being and progress in general. In 2005, Professor Ella Burnett joined the project. After a series of deliberations, the focus of brain research changed to identifying key elements for happiness and joy.

Looking back and examining those accomplishments, he observed joy at the core of it all and realized that it is the key to success. He learned to value and enjoy every day, everything, and every experience. He believed that one could think of each day as a special day such as ‘Magical Monday, Twinkling Tuesday, Wonderful Wednesday, Terrific Thursday, Fabulous Friday, Superior Saturday, and Supreme Sunday.’
