When most people think of civics, they immediately think of politics. However, civics is much more than politics, it involves the interaction and engagement of neighborhoods, communities, boroughs, cities, etc. most importantly it involves you.

At its very root, civics is about people and their contribution to society.

Understanding and engaging in civics empowers change. In this workbook we will not only learn about the foundation of the US government, political parties, how bills are passed, and laws are made; we will also learn how to interface with elected officials, and community representatives, communicate perspectives, and arguments, and plan strategically for civic change. Our goal is to develop a pipeline of engaged, change agents.

We want you to understand the significance of your voice and how it shapes public policy and lends itself to resolving critical issues. Your voice can take several forms, ranging from personal testimony, peaceful protesting, community activism, volunteering, jury duty, and most importantly voting
