Dr. Carmelo L. Battaglia has more than 30 years of experience as a breeder, researcher and author. He helped establish standards for breeding better dogs and introduced new ways that pedigrees could be used for that purpose. He holds the Ph.D. and Masters degree from Florida State University. He is a popular American Kennel Club judge and has owned or bred German Shepherd Dogs, English Springer Spaniels, Portuguese Water Dogs, Longhaired Dachshunds and Pembroke Corgis.
In 1986, 1999 and 2004 his work about dogs was selected by the Dog Writers Association of America for recognition. Dr Battaglia is a popular TV and radio guest and has appeared on Animal Planet several times. His articles have appeared in the major dog magazines in the US, England, Canada, Hungary, South Africa, Australia, Italy and Ireland.
Dr. Battaglia is a Director of the American Kennel Club, past president of Dog Writers Association of America, past president of AKC’s Companion Animal Recovery organization for microchips, past president of the German Shepherd Dog Club of America and Atlanta. His work about breeding better dogs is widely used by breeders to upgrade and improve their breeding programs.
He is the author of Breeding Better Dogs and Genetics, How to Breed Better Dogs. He lives in Roswell Georgia where he continues to breed and do his research.
