Lucy Star @ 13 describes that when trans children are on the cusp of puberty, they need to start stage one of their treatment. This treatment is puberty blockers. It is an injection which they require every three months to stop their body from developing into a body they don’t identify with. In Lucy’s case, Lucy receives estrogen. She will continue to take this until stage 2 of her treatment, until she turns sixteen.

In this book, Lucy talks about the anxiety and depression she experienced before she started stage 1 of her treatment, describing it as a very dark and lonely place. Lucy felt if she didn’t receive this treatment, she would have killed herself.
